The Family and Medical Leave Act

WHAT IF TWO FAMILY MEMBERS ARE EMPLOYED?
Spouses are jointly entitled to a combined total of 12 or 16 weeks of family leave for the birth or placement of a child, or to care for a parent who has a serious health condition. For the care of a spouse or child with a serious health condition, or for the employee’s own serious health condition, each employed spouse is eligible for a separate leave period.
